prince of persia_sands of time The first on-set images of Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Jarhead) as Prince Dastan in the new Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film have emerged, showing off his newly-toned body and ancient Persian costume. The film will feature such actors as Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast, Lucky Number Slevin) and Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spider-Man 2). Also, Quantum of Solace actress Gemma Arterton will appear in the film as Princess Tamina. According to IMDB.com, the movie will follow the storyline of the game, where Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) is tricked and unleashes the Sands of Time, destroying the kingdom and turning its inhabitants into demons and sand creatures. In order to save the world, Dastan and Tamina must return the hourglass using the Dagger of Time. 
The photos were taken on location in Morocco, North Africa, where the movie is being filmed.
The movie is being directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and just began filming last month. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is set to release on May 28, 2010
